What Should a Video Production Brief Include?
A tight brief saves days of revisions. Here's the structure we ask every client to send us before we quote.
The best video projects we've ever shot started with a one-page brief. The worst projects started with 'just film it and we'll see'. A brief isn't bureaucracy — it's the shared map the whole crew works from.
What to include
Audience — who is this for? Purpose — what should they think, feel or do after? Format — broadcast, web, social cut-downs, all three? Length — hard duration or flexible? Tone — talk-head serious, brand-warm, fast cinematic? Deliverables — final formats, codecs, captioning, language tracks. Timeline — shoot dates, edit milestones, hard delivery date. Budget envelope — even a band helps us scope crew and gear correctly.
Send us the answers and we'll come back with a treatment, a budget and a shoot plan within 48 hours. That's how good production starts.
